FAQ
Where Will I Be Working?
The beauty of locum tenens lies in its geographic flexibility. Opportunities exist nationwide, from small rural communities to major metropolitan areas. You might find yourself practicing in scenic locations like Alaska or Colorado, bustling cities like New York or Los Angeles, or charming small towns you've never heard of. This variety allows you to experience different patient populations, healthcare systems, and regional medical practices while building a diverse professional network.
Where Will I Live During My Assignment?
Housing arrangements depend on assignment length and location. For shorter assignments, you might stay in hotels or furnished apartments. Longer assignments often include rental homes or condos with full amenities.
Can I Bring My Family/Pets To My Assigned Location?
Absolutely, however please keep in mind that Guardian Physician group will only cover the cost of our group member and the cost of pets/additional family members will need to be paid independently by the member.
What About Malpractice Insurance?

How do locum tenens salaries work?
Locum tenens salaries are typically paid as a daily or hourly rate, rather than an annual salary. Your earnings depend on factors like specialty, location, schedule, and market demand. For example, high-need areas or weekend/night shifts may pay more. Instead of a traditional paycheck, most locum tenens providers are classified as independent contractors (1099) and are paid directly by the agency.
How long are locum tenens contracts?
Locum tenens contracts can vary widely in length, depending on the medical facility’s needs and your availability. Assignments can be as short as a single weekend or a few days, or extend to several weeks or months. Some providers take on long-term locums contracts lasting 6 months or more, especially in rural or high-demand areas.
Can I work a locum tenens assignment while also having a full-time job?
Yes, you can work a locum tenens assignment while holding a full-time job, as long as your schedule and employment contract allow it. Guardian Physician Group will work with your availability to match you with flexible, part-time opportunities.
